Paul Verhoeven is teaming up with Roger Avary to create an exceptionally controversial movie in a obviously transparent attempt to revive their careers. Verhoeven hasn't made a good film since 1997 and, other than those directed by Tarantino or Zemeckis, Avary hasn't been attached to a good film in his entire career.
Reappraising Girls now that the whole first season has aired. This has me thinking about giving the show another chance. I found the tone extremely off-putting and sympathetic towards characters that deserve none from me. The Seinfeld comparison is one I made to another friend some time ago. The joke was always on George, Jerry, Elaine or Kramer and the show never coddled them afterward. Girls, however, from what I saw, did and that never sat right with me. But Seitz's analysis has me intrigued and willing to try again at some point.
