Ridley Scott's new movie, Gibson's too thick wood, Al-Qaeda in Libya and the real America's Team: Friday Links

Here's the trailer for Prometheus.

Kim Jong Il dropping the bass.

What does it take to cause a SWAT team raid? Wood a centimeter too thick. (That's what she said?)

Europe continues to show it's not a big fan of free speech.

Big businesses lobbying for regulations that benefit them and not consumers? Never!

So, did we win or lose in Libya?

We killed your daughter; you're under arrest.

The Green Bay Packers top a Public Policy Polling survey of who's "America's Team". Bonus: A Dallas TV station put up their own poll pitting the Packers versus the Cowboys, and as of this writing the Packers had 89% of the votes.

Stupid Sex Offender Laws, Betty White, Ron Paul and Racist Gun Guntrol: Daily Links

I got lots of em today!

The mayor of Covington won't explain why he's put the Chief of Police on paid leave. An internal investigation is taking place and speculation is that it has something to do with several brutality investigations involving Covington officers.

Has the Betty White thing jumped the shark yet? (This is assuming you didn't think it jumped the shark when she appeared on SNL.)

Well, what other kind of Christmas did you think he'd wish?

"Do you think the children we blow to shreds with our aerial drones care if Ron Paul’s associates published a racist newsletter in the 90′s or do you think they care more about being blown to shreds?"

Speaking of drone strikes.

The Overjustification Effect

The racist history behind modern gun control laws.

This story in Sports Illustrated highlights how sex crime laws and sex offender registries have gone too far. A kid who everyone agrees is a great person had his life ruined because he mistakenly took a girl at her word when she told him she was 16 before they had consensual sex.

Radley Balko adds a little drug war context to a recent Daily Beast/Center for Investigative Journalism piece about police militarization.
