Daily Link Dump - April 18, 2012

Apparently people spend a shit ton of money on their kids' prom. I rented a tux. Maybe bought a ticket, assuming you had to buy a ticket. I don't remember. And neither will these kids.

Six stupid gun myths you learned from Hollywood.

Ridiculous pictures of cats from the 1870s.

The death of the American action movie.

Never call the cops. Of course, they might just show up anyway.

Also, if you're a good and decent person, never become a cop.

Of course, if you are a cop you can stop the repo man from taking your wife's truck.

A list of pilot scripts that AMC is considering to make. None are really jumping off the page at me, but then again I doubt Mad Men or Breaking Bad would have elicited any reaction from me at that stage.

Julianne Moore targeted to play Carrie's mom in a remake. I'm not against remakes but I never understood why Hollywood insists on remaking classics like this. Regardless of the source material being a Stephen King novel, the original is an essential Brian DePalma film that has two iconic performances (Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie). What could Kimberly Peirce possibly bring to it?

And, finally...

One wonders if Barack Obama thinks he would have been helped had he been forced into mandatory treatment for the coke and marijuana he admitted to doing as a young man. I once thought the one bright side to an Obama Presidency would be that the War on Drugs would start to calm down. How stupid was I? He really is nothing more than a vile and disgusting man whose only goal is to win an election. Well, that and a dog eater.
